A Date with Michael J. Fox at the Beverly Hills Montage Hotel

Beverly Hills Montage . . . sounds like a great place for a romantic getaway, doesn't it, but in my "local" travels, it's one hotel I've missed.  Not sure how that happened, but I'm certainly making up for it tomorrow; the hubby and I are attending a Michael J. Fox Foundation "research roundtable" at the hotel -- nice venue, MJF!

Usually when we sample a new hotel (of this caliber), it's during a great vacation, but on this occasion, I have to admit, it's not quite the getaway we had in mind.  First of all, we're going to the hotel on a Tuesday night, and if you're an Idol fan, you know where I'm going with that -- I'm giving up watching Lee and Crystal's final performances on American Idol, just to see what's going on with Parkinson's Disease research.  What's wrong with me???

I have Parkinson's Disease . . . that's what's wrong with me, duh!

Let me back up three years.  I'm a forty-year-old female, totally active, and I get PD.  Mind- blowing, yes, but I always say, that if someone has to have the disease, why not me.  I can handle it.  And I know that all those years of physical activity were due to the Man upstairs preparing
me for it.  Optimist, yes!

Most people would say they are living with a disease.  Not me.  Parkinson's Disease is living with me.  I'm the landlord, and Parkinson's Disease is the tenant!  This is my body, and I will determine what it CAN and cannot do.

I'm going to do everything in my power to learn about the disease and what I can do to help raise awareness and money.  Tomorrow night just might be the BEST date night of my life.

PS - I hope the bar at the hotel is showing American Idol . . . priorities, people!   kj

  4. Thank you for the support! It's going to be an "extra medicine" day, as I'm feeling a little anxious about hearing about the progress in research. Also, I'm sure I will see many people with varying symptoms of PD, which at times, to be honest, is very scary. But Life is so Good!

  5. Hey there KJ,

I did not know you had PD. ;)

You are definitely optimistic, I would be devestated if I had it, However, like you, I would want to know EVERYTHING about it and any research updates.

I am a big fan of Michael J. Fox. :)

I'm also a big fan of American Idol and am very excited about watching it tonight. I'm sure you will be able to catch the performances on the net somewhere. ;)

My hat is off to you with your optimism and courage! =)

  6. Yay for you! We can only orchestrate our lives so much. Sometimes we're given things we don't like or want and it's how we surmount and survive those things that not only demonstrates our determination and character, but expands it and builds it as well. Your strength of character and courage to show PD who's boss, and your determination to arm yourself with knowledge will allow you to make good things happen.

We don't always get to choose how we will live our lives, but the how doesn't preclude us from a life well-lived and well-loved.
